Mark Twain said it best: “You can go to Heaven if you want. I’d rather stay in Bermuda.” We couldn’t agree more. But what do you do when life beckons and you want to keep the island spirit alive? Start Bermuda Dreaming.
Founded by Amanda Temple, a Bermudian photographer, Bermuda Dreaming is an Instagram initiative that’s gone from grassroots to a social media takeover that spans Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. And the best part: Anyone can join in on the fun, whether you want to daydream about better days spent lazing on the beach, or be an active participant and share your own photo memories of the island.
All you have to do is use the hashtag #bermudadreaming and follow @bermudadreaming on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, then leave the rest to them. “The idea was to gather a group of photographers, artists and writers together to share their beautiful images and thoughts on the island,” says Temple. “There is a core group of about seven of us that contribute regularly, a further 50 or so that share via the #bermudadreaming hashtag and in the last 10 months the hashtag has been used 6,871 times by hundreds of people, both residents and visitors.” The passionate team helps to sort through the photos, and Temple posts her favourites to the social media accounts.
You not only get to share your images and browse those of others, but you get to interact with fellow like-minded Bermuda lovers. The group hosts an “Instameet” open to residents and visitors each month. During the event, the group explores the island and photographs everything along the way. After all, dreaming is the first stage in any good vacation game plan — and the best way to keep the memories of past Bermuda vacations alive. For more information, visit bermudadreaming.com.
