Over the weekend, thousands of cheering fans from both Bermuda and around the world lined the streets with flags and banners in support of the Bermudian superstar athlete, Flora Duffy. Duffy, this year’s Commonwealth Games triathlon Gold medallist and twice winner of the ITU World Series, raced on home soil for the first time as a World Champion.
Duffy’s display was stunning, dominating the course, which included a 40-kilometre solo bike ride on her customised Bermuda-pink bike. “I guess you could say that was close to perfection,” Duffy told the Royal Gazette. “It was an incredible day, the absolute highlight of my career and it was amazing to see so many Bermudians come out in support. It was amazing to see how diverse the crowd was.”
As if her successful victory weren’t enough, Duffy also became the first woman in WTS history to win a race after being the leader in all three disciplines of run, bike and swim.
Want to see Duffy race again? Fans will have two more chances to watch the hometown hero race, with Bermuda securing stops on the 2019 and 2020 ITU series. For more information, visit wts.triathlon.org.
