A longtime top destination for sailors, Bermuda is set to host the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series race event this October. As the first leg of the competition, the World Series will feature all of the America’s Cup teams racing in one-design AC45 catamarans, in hopes of earning points that will advance them to the Finals at the 35th America’s Cup in 2017.
The event will be the first opportunity for spectators from around the world to see all of the America’s Cup teams racing. The race course will be located in the Great Sound. The finish line will be positioned in the Great Sound for race one of each day and in Hamilton Harbor for the second race, providing perfect viewing opportunities for both on water and on shore spectators.
Overall ranking position in the World Series will determine the starting points score of the teams in the America’s Cup Qualifiers in 2017.
There’s plenty of fun and action to be had on land, too. The Race Village, which will be situated in Hamilton, will host family-friendly events, as well as evening activities.
The America’s Cup is just the latest sailing competition to take place in Bermuda. It joins the popular Newport-Bermuda race, which will celebrate its 50th edition in 2016, and the Argo Group Gold Cup, the oldest one-design match racing event in the world, dating back to 1937.
The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series will take place October 16-18, 2015.
