Oh, What a Night Shakes Hamilton!
By the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce
When the summer sun goes down on Wednesdays, Hamilton comes alive with a street festival offering locals and visitors alike a chance to shop, dance and enjoy Bermuda's vibrant atmosphere.
Come dance in the streets, sample local cuisine, meet new friends and rekindle old friendships as you soak up Bermuda's unique, colourful culture. Hamilton's scenic harbour front is closed to vehicular traffic and offers fun for the entire family every Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m., May 6 to Sept. 9. For more than 16 years, locals and tourists have gathered to enjoy a wide variety of activities, from face painting to live music.
Local bands and musicians will keep you dancing in the street. Besides Gombey performances, steel pans, dancers and craft demonstrations, revellers enjoy the Bermuda Regiment band, which marches down Front Street in full regimental garb with pipes and drums. Children can choose from activities including fun castles, face painting, tattoos and hair braiding.
With so much activity, visitors work up an appetite, and the food court fills that bill. Here, the hungry find Bermudian and international specialities, popular fried fish, a range of snacks, refreshing drinks and cool treats. In the mood to relax? Enjoy a fabulous dinner at one of the many fine restaurants, some of which overlook the harbour and festival.
How do you get there? Just take a ferry, catch a bus or hire a taxi to Hamilton. For more information, check local newspapers, inquire at the front desk of your accommodation, or call the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce. (295-4201)
Relax, enjoy, save and see Bermuda by bus. A blue or pink pole indicates bus stops. If the pole is topped with blue, the bus travels from Hamilton; if the pole is topped pink, the route is toward Hamilton.
