Experience Dockyard’s Vibrant Nightlife Scene
Once the sun starts to sink in that blue, blue Bermuda sky, a whole new vibe casts over Snorkel Park Beach’s white sands as the island’s party people come out to play.
Start the night on a mellow note by snagging a waterfront perch at Hammerheads Bar & Grill in Snorkel Park Beach for a Rum Swizzle Sundowner followed by a sunset beach barbeque dinner of fresh island fare like fish sandwiches and homemade beef burgers hot from the grill. The pink and orange colours streak across the sky to magical effect, but it’s when darkness sinks in that things really start to heat up as Club Aqua kicks the party into high gear.
High-energy DJs spin dance and Top 40 tunes that will have you moving, toes in the sand, under a sky filled with stars. And you never know what sort of festive antics will ensue — a spot of limbo on the beach or an impromptu conga line, perhaps. The laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to mix and mingle with new friends.
Club Aqua’s special events, held at least once a month throughout the year and more regularly during the summertime, are when things really get wild here, with themed parties to celebrate some of the biggest parties of the year, like Heineken Wet ’n’ Wild, Smirnoff Foam Party, Reggae Parties and Soca Events, too.
Club Aqua is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with special events on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday nights, depending on the season. For the most up-to-date info, visit snorkelparkbeach.com to plan an unforgettable island-style night.
Hot Nights: Bar Hopping in Dockyard
As the sun begins to melt its way toward the horizon, painting everything a soft pink, restaurants and bars in Dockyard start to fill with friends old and new, drawn together for conversation and a drink or two.
The Dark ‘n Stormy’s flow at The Frog and Onion Pub, a cosy bar and restaurant with floors covered with Oriental carpets that’s housed inside the mid-19th-century Cooperage building, just a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock and King’s and Heritage wharves. There’s live music during the daily happy hours here and quiz nights during the week, too. And you can pad your belly against the pints with authentic English pub meals such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and Balti curries.
Beer lovers will want to beeline it for Dockyard Brewing Company — the only on-site brewing company in Bermuda, located within The Frog and Onion Pub — which brews up five different and delicious homemade brews that include an IPA, wheat beer, amber ale, light lager and a porter.
One of the newest dining experiences at Dockyard is Bone Fish Bar & Grill, which has become known as much for its flopping fresh seafood and well-edited wine list as for the happening weekly entertainment lineup that includes salsa dancing, karaoke, DJs, deck parties and live bands at various times throughout the week. The outside patio is usually packed after sunset, particularly during the summer months, with people enjoying the alfresco ambience and comfortable temperatures.
And for real partiers who like to whoop it up whilst still keeping things toes-in-the-sand casual, Club Aqua at Snorkel Park Beach is an open-air nightclub where an under-the-stars, alfresco party really gets going on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights — with special events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights — with DJs and video DJs (for ages 18 and up). Dance with your toes in the sand till the wee hours with an international crowd of revellers.
Right next to Snorkel Park Beach is Bermuda Fun Golf, open seven days a week till 10 p.m. Here you’ll find Caddyshack, their on-site bar, offering happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Sip on a Frozen Dark ’n Stormy or putt a round after the sun sets with their unique “Glow in the dark” night golf.
And be sure to keep an eye out for regularly scheduled events organised by WEDCO that bring out both locals and tourists to the North Lawn at Dockyard. Everyone settles in for a festive ambience that usually includes a mix of live music, island craft and food vendors and, without a doubt, sparkling views of Great Sound.
