Dockyard Set the Stage for the 35th America’s Cup

By Tom Webb

The 35th America’s Cup will be contested by the six America’s Cup teams in the beautiful waters of Bermuda from May 26 until the end of June 2017.

Bermuda’s Great Sound will set the stage upon which the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport will be played out. Thousands of fans will descend on the island to watch the racing up close, and millions more will tune in on TV around the world to watch the action as it takes place on Bermuda’s crystal-clear seas.

At the heart of the action is the America’s Cup Event Village in Bermuda’s historic Dockyard. A purpose-built race hub, constructed on nine acres of reclaimed land, will be home to two of the America’s Cup teams, as well as VIP hospitality, a host of fan attractions and entertainment, and grandstand views of the racing action as it unfolds on the Great Sound.

Across Bermuda, the America’s Cup is going to bring the island to life like never before. In addition to the America’s Cup itself, there will be dozens of the world’s greatest superyachts and a dedicated America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta. There is also the America’s Cup J Class Regatta, a celebration of some of the most beautiful yachts in America’s Cup history, and the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, a competition for the next generation of America’s Cup stars to test their mettle on the same racecourse as the full America’s Cup teams.

There will be no better time to visit Bermuda, as the whole island will be abuzz with the excitement of international competition. Finally, at the end of June, one team will raise the America’s Cup in the air — the greatest moment in sailing!
