BSX Pioneers Offshore Finance
 The Bermuda securities market launched the offshore financial-services industry and still creates business and regulatory models for newer jurisdictions to follow. Now fully electronic, the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX, www.bsx.com) enjoys market capitalisation in excess of $330 billion, excluding mutual funds, with nearly 550 securities listed. Besides debt and equities, it specialises in hedge funds, derivative warrants and other creative instruments.
A recent example of the exchange's innovative approach is Launch 'n' List, a service for the global hedge-fund industry and the result of a BSX collaboration with the Bermuda International Business Association and the Bermuda Monetary Authority. Launch 'n' List responded to a frustration with the time required to create, domicile and list a new structure. The programme reduces that time by eliminating duplicative effort.
The success of the BSX springs from just this sort of innovative financial service, plus the sensible regulatory environment it maintains. The exchange is a full member of the World Federation of Exchanges and is located in a member nation of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. It has helped the growth of Bermuda's capital markets and has provided great opportunities for international clients.
