Bermuda Performing Arts Festival

 Bermuda, the tiny British territory off the coast of North Carolina, is known for its pink-sand beaches, ideal year-round weather and numerous golf courses, but it also hosts many festivals throughout the year. One of the oldest and most popular festivals on the island is the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts, an annual event founded in 1976 to share the performing arts with Bermuda residents and tourists from around the world.
"Over the years, the festival has developed a special place on Bermuda's calendar," says John A. Ellison, the festival's founding chairman who is back running the festival after a 25-year absence. "There really is a buzz and an excitement in the air with so many performances taking place. The festival offers a diverse selection of first-rate entertainment from jazz to opera, dance to avant-garde theater. It's just a wonderful time to be on-island."
The lineup has featured some of the most respected names in the world of performing arts, including; Eroica Trio; several principals and soloists of the London Royal Ballet; Tony-award winning songstress Melba Moore; an updated version of Puccini's classic opera La Bohème; and world-class jazz by the famed Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
Performances of the Bermuda Festival are held in City Hall Theatre, Daylesford Theatre and the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts, all of which are located in the capital of Hamilton. For more information call 295-1291 or log on to www.bermudafestival.org.
