Yacht Charters: Experience the Other Half

Considering that Bermuda covers more water than land, it makes perfect sense to drink in the beauty from the deck of your own private yacht. In fact, you can only experience Bermuda's charms fully by taking to the sea.

Luckily, several luxurious charter yachts make a sensuous day of sailing easy, accessible and affordable, and you don't even have to clean up afterwards. Brightstar II, Destiny Tours, Island Girl Charters, M.V. Bermuda Longtail and MV Venetian are five popular cruising operations and vessels here. They host family vacations, corporate outings, weddings and, of course, romantic getaways.

Brightstar II is a 55-foot Tayana sloop with capacity for up to 25 people. MV Destiny is an elegant 78-foot custom-designed multipurpose cruiser with two spacious decks for your cruising pleasure, plus an air-conditioned cabin, modern heads (sailor speak for "bathrooms"), Bimini tops to shade the upper decks and lots of extras.

Island Girl is a long, luxurious, modern motor yacht licenced for up to 50 passengers, with a half-covered top deck and bar, air-conditioned main cabin and fine-dining cabin for eight guests. M.V. Bermuda Longtail is a 65-foot double-deck catamaran optimized for parties up to 200 passengers, with state-of-the-art sound system, deejay booth and buffet area. M.V. Venetian is all about fine dining. The luxurious Italian yacht is well staffed and equipped for a moveable feast, private party or intimate overnight cruise.

A great itinerary for a cruising charter is a tour of Hamilton Harbour, one of the world's most beautiful anchorages. Glide through the bays and around the many interesting islands, listening to fascinating stories of the heavenly homes, some dating back to the 1600s. Then head out to Great Sound for a rush of wind and water. Take a turn at the helm or just lounge on the deck to soak up some rays. Ply the crystal-clear waters for a refreshing swim or snorkel adventure.

Later, sip a Dark 'n' Stormy, Bermuda's national drink, or your own favourite beverage. Optional lunch can be a simple tuna salad, smoked salmon wrap or other tasty fare. Dinner can begin with canapés, move on to grilled chicken, sirloin or catch of the day, and finish with a rum cake.

See the listings in our Watersports section to find contact data, rates and availability for several charter yachts.

Relax, enjoy, save and see Bermuda by bus. A blue or pink pole indicates bus stops. If the pole is topped with blue, the bus travels from Hamilton; if the pole is topped pink, the route is toward Hamilton.
