Warmed by reliable sunshine, Gulf Stream currents and welcoming locals, Bermuda creates the optimal winter destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
On January 14–16, 2011, the 36th annual Bermuda International Race Weekend will feature a long-standing invitational mile, 10K, marathon and half marathon. If you run the first two events and your choice of a full or half marathon, you’ll have achieved the Bermuda Triangle Challenge! (236-6086, www.bermudaraceweekend.com)
The weekend kicks off on Friday with the KPMG Bermuda Invitational Mile. By invitation only, the top 20 finishers in a series of trial events compete for prizes starting at 6:30 p.m. Bermuda Triangle Challenge runners do not have to qualify.
On Saturday, Bermuda International 10K runners propel themselves to the finish line inside the impressive National Sports Centre. On Sunday, the Bermuda International Marathon and Half Marathon unfold. Starting at 8 a.m., both the 13.1-mile and 26.2-mile courses start and finish on Front Street in Hamilton. Full-marathon runners complete two laps of the 13.1-mile course.
In 2011, the young Bermuda Triangle Challenge celebrates its fourth year. Winners earn major bragging rights by running three races over three days: the KPMG Bermuda Invitational Mile on Friday, the Bermuda International 10K on Saturday and either the Bermuda International Marathon or the Bermuda International Half Marathon on Sunday. Finishers receive medals for each race, as well as a special Bermuda Triangle Challenge medal and T-shirt to commemorate that achievement.
